Scream & Misty Return!

Rejoice 70s and 80s horror comic fans!

As I mentioned a week or so ago in my look back at Scream, Rebellion, the people behind 2000AD, acquired the rights to the much-loved Scream comic earlier this year along with several other classic Fleetway/IPC/Egmont titles. This acquisition included Misty, a supernatural themed comic marketed more towards the female market which ran from 1978 until it was merged with Tammy magazine in 1980.

There has been a slow drip-feed of old horror material being reprinted by Rebellion’s new Treasury of British Comics label to date, with their Monster and Misty: Moonchild & The Four Faces Of Eve reprints last year and the forthcoming The Dracula File book scheduled for this October. But speculation has been rife that something else quite special may be on the horizon.

Well… today (20th July 2017) it was announced that a new comic book featuring stories from both the Scream and Misty stables is to be released. Even more exciting is the news that, while much-loved characters will be returning, it is going to be comprised entirely of brand new stories.

Confirmed content is:

  • The Thirteenth Floor will be returning from Scream and The Eagle as Max once more protects the residents of Maxwell Tower at any cost! By Guy Adams, John Stokes and Frazer Irving.
  • The Dracula File bares its fangs once more. By Grainne McEntee and Tristan Jones.
  • Death Man: The Gathering features a superhero first introduced in 2000AD’s Free Comic Book Day 2016 issue. A collection of unusual characters from various 70s and 80s comic strips will feature. By Henry Flint.
  • Black Max the vampiric, German WWI flying ace, originally from the war comic Thunder, flies again. By Kek-W and Simon Coleby.
  • Return of The Sentinels by Hannah Berry and Ben Willsher sees the Misty favourite back for more time-travelling shenanigans.
  • Fate of the Fairy Hunter An original tale by Alec Worley and DaNi
  • Cover art (below) by Henry Flint

The release date is likely to be 18th October this year with a price of £3.99 – this confirms to me that it will most likely be a magazine format rather than a bound book – and it will be a limited release, available until 13th December.

More news as it comes in.
